Getting there


Lochinver is not well served by public transport – but that is one of its beauties!  You will really feel that you have got away from it all in Lochinver, with no traffic noise, pollution or hustle and bustle.  Plan carefully for how you come to Lochinver, but remember that when you arrive here, you’ll find it’s been well worth the trip!

BUS SERVICES

Lochinver is connected by a bus service from Ullapool (during school terms only), and by a service from Inverness (during summer only).  There is a postbus service operated by the Royal Mail between Drumbeg and Lairg, which stops in Lochinver.  Please check local travel information before you set out as Lochinver is not well served by public transport.  Ullapool is served by a bus service operated by Scottish Citylink, which runs from Inverness to Ullapool.  Check www.citylink.co.uk for timetables and travel information.

TRAIN CONNECTIONS

There is no train station in Lochinver.  The most convenient train station is probably Inverness (though this is still 93 miles away!), from where you can continue your journey by coach or car.  First Scotrail run train services between Inverness and London, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Kyle of Lochalsh, Thurso and Wick.  The Scotrail Caledonian Sleeper also runs very comfortable sleeper trains between Inverness and London Euston.  See www.scotrail.co.uk for timetables, travel information and bookings.

BY CAR

From Inverness  93 miles

Take the A9 north out of Inverness, and then the A835 to Ullapool.  Once past Ullapool, take the A837 in the direction of Lochinver.  You will pass Knockan and then come to Ledmore, where you should turn left heading towards Inchnadamph.  There is a fork ahead on the road, by the shores of Loch Assynt, and you should take the left fork beside the lochside.  Follow this road to Lochinver.

From Edinburgh  246 miles

Cross the Forth Road Bridge and continue north on the M90 to Perth.  Take the A9 north out of Perth and follow it north, past Inverness.  Then take the A835 to Ullapool.  Once past Ullapool, take the A837 in the direction of Lochinver.  You will pass Knockan and then come to Ledmore, where you should turn left heading towards Inchnadamph.  There is a fork ahead on the road, by the shores of Loch Assynt, and you should take the left fork beside the lochside.  Follow this road to Lochinver.

From Glasgow  260 miles

Take the M8 eastbound out of Glasgow, and then take the M80 to Stirling.  Continue forward onto the M9, and then follow the A9 signposted for Perth.  Take the A9 past Perth, and follow it north past Inverness.  Then take the A835 to Ullapool.  Once past Ullapool, take the A837 in the direction of Lochinver.  You will pass Knockan and then come to Ledmore, where you should turn left heading towards Inchnadamph.  There is a fork ahead on the road, by the shores of Loch Assynt, and you should take the left fork beside the lochside.  Follow this road to Lochinver.

BY AIR

The nearest international airport to Lochinver is Inverness Airport, which is 100 miles away.  Edinburgh Airport is 244 miles from Lochinver, and Glasgow International Airport is 247 miles from Lochinver.  Flights operate from Inverness to destinations in the UK, Germany and Spain.  From Glasgow and Edinburgh there are air links throughout the UK and to European, Asian and US destinations.
